MERtropolis

For Simply Custom, we envisage this yacht to be practical as well as ground-breaking, aligned with Oceanco’s reputation, while at the same time being completely at home across the world’s oceans – as if she would express, “The sea is my metropolis.” So we came up with a fitting name for this creation: MERtropolis.

To keep options open for a client, we created a design for MERtropolis that could adopt either a flaired or plumb bow, because we find that preference in bow shape is a very personal thing. With a focus on practicality and guest convenience, we implemented a number of our Cor D. Rover Design patents to provide some unique features onboard.

For a strong and distinctive look, we imagined a pleasing transition in window transparency across the superstructure, from clear at the front – providing excellent views forward – to opaque anthracite at the rear. While the aft decks combine natural wood ceilings, lacquered wood deckhouses and bronze-tinted windows complemented by bronze anodized doorframes.

Our studio is focused purely on the aesthetical side of yacht design, for both interior and exterior, which is complemented by my own background in naval architecture and mechanical engineering. This helps stakeholders to feel reassured that our sometimes out-of-the-box designs are different but nevertheless buildable.

Before creating anything, we always start by listening to our clients to better understand them, their way of life and their dreams. We don’t have a defined ‘brand style’ but we rather see ourselves as the ‘pencil-in-hand’ which turns each client’s dream into reality. As a result, our yachts range from very classic to ultra-contemporary; what connects them is their timeless appearance, which results in a lasting beauty as well as value.
