Lassel

Tony Castro Yacht Design

Lassel is named after one of the original gentleman explorers, Richard Lassels, who is credited with creating the concept of ‘grand touring’ in the late 1700s. Intended to be synonymous with great experiences while at same time broadening education, culture and the pleasure of savoir faire; a concept that is at the core of this yacht.

In the past, the term ‘grand tour’ or ‘GT’ has been associated with glamour, elegance, gentlemen drivers, continental races and sundowners along the Riviera. So in naming her Lassel, we hope our Simply Custom design captures the origin of the grand touring adventures and experiences, now wrapped in all the majestic elegance and innovative design that only a Oceanco yacht can have.

Working with any owner is all about building the relationship and the narrative of how they use their current boat if they have one, or how they live their current lives, if they don’t. But it’s as much about guiding them as it is listening. It is the designer’s job to go beyond the list of features that an owner wants, to understand why and how the request for that feature came about. Are they looking at charter, are they family orientated, are they looking for adventure, and even some unsavory questions like, ‘Do we need to consider resale?’

The dream client is one who wants to go on the journey of creation as much as enjoying the delivered product. So for us, capturing the emotions behind the project and building that narrative together and making sure that the yacht is a true reflection of how they want to spend the next five to 10 years or more gives us all the ultimate satisfaction. When it all comes together perfectly in every way, we are – and have been – rewarded with an owner keeping their boat 25 years or more. Perhaps not the best for business but a great deal of professional satisfaction!
