Yachtbuilding in the spotlight

Oceanco hosts the official opening of the Shipyard Week in the Netherlands.
As the Dutch shipbuilding industry pulled out all the stops and a broad variety of shipyards opened their doors during the European Shipyard Week (7-12 April), Oceanco, one of the country's leading yachtbuilders, was proud to be chosen for the kick-off event for the week to take place at its premises. The event was officially opened by Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Mrs. Maria van der Hoeven while the Mayor of Alblasserdam Ms Lennie Huizer was also present and addressed the participants.

Dynamic industry
Opening the Shipyard Week at Oceanco in Alblasserdam, Minister Van der Hoeven acknowledged the challenge and encouraged the shipbuilders to raise their profile. Show the people what shipbuilding is, she said as she addressed 250 industry representatives, students and journalists at the opening ceremony. In her speech the minister stressed that she recognized the importance of Dutch shipbuilding and yachtbuilding. She also indicated that this is visible in the government's policies.

Oceanco, a renowned shipyard for super yachts of 80+ metres, is one of the largest yachtbuilders in the Netherlands and among the top 3, in its market, on a worldwide scale. Eel Kant, managing director of the shipyard, did not try to hide his pride over hosting the prestigious event. For you this may be an ordinary day, but we see it as an important milestone. It indicates that yachtbuilding rightly earns a prominent place in the shipbuilding industry as a whole.

The theme of the event in Alblasserdam read: Welcome to the world of shipyards, where a dream career is not an illusion.The World Champion Dutch Stage Illusionist Sittah, put on one of her amazing performances underlining this vision. After the magical part of the day, Oceanco offered the visitors a tour on its two super yachts that are nearing completion.
